There is a contest going on this Lent. It is called Lent Madness. Styled after the basketball spring pair-offs (can you tell I am not a sports fan?), Lent Madness pairs off various saints, one against another, allows people to vote daily (except for Sundays). The prize at the end is the Golden Halo. Of course there are comments and silly arguments. Of course this is not listed in the Book of Common Prayer as one of the spiritual practices or disciplines. HOWEVER, I am learning more about the saints of the Church, greater and lesser. This seems good. And it is fun. And it is a lot less fattening than the All You Can Eat Friday Fish Fry at your local Mom and Pop restaurant. There is something cleansing about daily laughter. www.lentmadness.org
Consider this:
When did you last laugh? Yes, it is ok to laugh in Lent, and it is ok to become involved in silly contests. There is something cleansing about laughter. It often helps clear our perspective, much like a special glass cleaner. While we wait to see God face to face, there are things we can do to help clean the glass. One of them is laughter.
